10 Tips And Techniques To Increase Trust On Websites & Landing Pages In 2019

Increasing Trust Should Be A Top Priority

In 2019 new online businesses are expected to ‘BOOM’ and numbers could increase up to 35-55%+ in 2019.  To set yourself apart from the growing competition, we believe trust is an invaluable piece to any marketing plan.  Most people believe that if you create a product people will buy it, but unfortunately, this is far from the truth.  In today’s world, the competition online is fierce and becoming relevant, trusted and successful is becoming harder and harder.  With just a few changes on your website or landing page, you could be converting better and rising above your competition.  We believe that these 10 techniques will help site owners generate more revenue.  We’ve used all 10 of these techniques in our agency at Riviton and fully believe that when someone trusts you, you immediately become more relevant to them.  So why not start 2019 with the goal of increasing trust on your website by using the tips seen below:

1. Trust Badges And Seals

One of the most important ways you can increase your trust is by adding badges on your site in relevant locations. If placed in a professional way and not over-done, badges can be a huge booster for web and online trust. When visitors see your website you need to answer their questions before they ask themselves all the “what if’s”.If someone is visiting a website and business they’ve never heard of before, you might consider adding “Verified Business” trust badges by a trust badge provider seen in the image below.  Some are affordable while others are not so affordable.  Careful consideration with placement and badge selection can help increase your odds of being successful with trust badges. A Verified Business badge, for example, can help people know that you’re backed by another company. This helps remove the option for your visitors to question your legitimacy. If you combine this with other logos and marks, it can increase your trust even more. We’ll talk about these other marks/graphics that can be used as we move on. Some affordable and effective trust badges: TrustLock.co, The Better Business Bureau. You can also learn more about the best trust badges on MonetizePros.com: Best Trust Badges.  There are also other types of trust badges including SSL SECURE badges that verify you SSL certificate.  These can be used next to credit card entries to help peoplf feel less hesitant to enter personal information.  We suggest using a verified business badge combined with an SSL verified badge in your footer and on select checkout pages.

2. Use Trust-Building Statements

Another technique that you should use in combination with trust badges and seals as described in part #1, is to include statements of trust throughout your site. When you place these next to trust badges, you can help increase the chances of your visitors believing your statements. For example in the image below, you can see the text “Trusted by 10,000 businesses” and the text “Featured by TheNextWeb.com” these statements help increase trust. When they are placed next to other company verification/trust badges like seen in the image placed next to TrustLock.co’s badges, it helps to compound the overall effectiveness. Some businesses even create badges or emblem graphics that advertise the features and reason why you should choose them.An example can be seen below in the badge that says “60 Day Money Back Guarantee” and then this is combined with other rhetorical reasoning and TrustLock badge to bring the visitor into the full trust of your website/company/business.

Other statements you could consider including:

  • Best Price Guarantee
  • Money Back Guarantee
  • Guaranteed Best Price Online
  • Trusted by XX,XXX businesses
  • Rated 4.7 Stars by 10,000 Customers
  • Free Shipping On Orders Above 100+

3. Use Authoritative Logos or Company Brand Names

Using client logos on your site can also be a sign that you are trusted by other real businesses. This is another technique that can help your visitors trust who you are. It’s similar to social proof, but we’ll get to that later on in this article. It’s simple, and can also be combined with testimonials for the best effect. Some service related businesses also have used a technique where they show logos of platforms where their service is working on in the real world. This is a great way to make your business look very authoritative and increase your level of trust from a visitor’s point of view.

An of client logos/image can be seen in the image below:

4. Real Solid Testimonials

This technique is often used but sometimes is done in a less professional way that can lead to distrust in the overall brand. Our #1 suggestion is to combine the individual’s face next to their title at the company they work for and then insert the testimonial. This gives the testimonial much more strength and aids in creating a better argument for your brand. Choosing the correct testimonial is also important, it can either be powerful or lack-luster. If you don’t have a good testimonial, or if it’s weak, you’ve gotta find a better one, or start asking for more testimonials from existing customers.A good example of how to combine a short yet sweet testimonial with headshot and authoritative title can be seen below:

5. Payment Processor Logos With Trust Badges

This technique for increasing trust cannot be overlooked. All sites that sell anything should include some credit card logos. It creates a more trustworthy appearance and helps psychologically make people feel more comfortable. Most people might see these logos 5-10X times a day if they go shopping locally or online. When you show these recognizable logos, it helps people feel that you can be trusted – they recognize and trust these companies that are being used every day around the world. When you. combine these logos with other trust badges and testimonials, it can really help increase sales and trust at the same time.

See a good example of this technique being used below:

6. Trust-Boosting Social Proof

Social proof is another excellent way to increase your trust. It helps other people feel more comfortable and can increase sales through FOMO (Fear Of Missing Out). This technique targets peoples need to follow what other people are doing. This is why testimonials work so great. Here are several other social proof techniques:

  • Stating how many products you have worldwide
  • Stating how many people bought your product within a certain time frame
  • Using timed social proof plugins like UseProof.com or other alternatives
  • Showing a counter of how many people are on your site now
  • Showing a counter of how many people bought a specific product or service
  • Showing company logos as already stated
  • Anything that can let your visitors know that others are either using or buying your product or service can help people feel like they’re going along with the crowd – this increases trust and psychologically helps people buy more!

An example of this can be seen below:

7. Create a trustworthy ‘About Us’ page

Having a good about us page can help others feel more comfortable with you and your company. It’s important to be honest and friendly in this section. Including your face and other people in your company can help you give off a professional appearance which increases trust. Using stock images also on this page or any page for that matter is a bad idea unless it gives a personable and professional example. It’s great to look at competitors in your niche who are winning and take notes. You don’t have to copy your competitor, but taking notes and making sure your About Us page is perfected is an excellent way to gain your visitor’s trust.

8. Don’t Hide Anything – Be Open And Genuine

If you are hiding your face, hiding relevant information that your competitors readily show as public info, this can be a warning sign to people who are researching you vs. your competitor. It’s important to be transparent and open to your visitors. This lets them know you are real and you are who you say you are. Linking to your social networks also can help give off a more legitimate and friendly vibe. This all can help to increase the trust of visitors on your website.

9. Make Sure Your Design Has Been Perfected

If your site doesn’t look ‘perfect’ you’ve got a problem! Each design issue that your visitor sees is another moment they might have to question your legitimacy. Anytime they wonder why something looks weird, it erodes the trust in your website. That’s why it’s so important to take a good hard look at your site and even compare it to other sites who are successful and ask yourself “does this site look like a multi-million dollar, successful company?” If the answer is now, then you need to get back to work. If you answer is yes, then ask some friends and make sure you KNOW without a shadow of a doubt that your design is perfect!

10. Find Top competing Brands In Your Niche and Compare Yourself

The last and most important technique to improve trust is zooming out and taking a look at your overall website. Take this and compare it side-by-side to your competitor’s site who is most successful in your niche and ask yourself and others “Is this site better than my competitor?” It’s important to take a good hard look and don’t feel married to your design. You can always change it, and sometimes your idea of what is ‘perfect’ might not be what everyone thinks is ‘perfect’. This is why it’s a good idea to get valuable feedback from existing customers and your friends or family who are willing to break the good hard truth to you!

5 Ways To Get More Shares On Facebook!

Whether it be a viral news blog or an archery company, careful thought and attention is required to be successful when distributing your content on Facebook. These five tips below have proved to be the crucial factors of success in our content marketing experience.

  1. Speak the language of your audience – When you post something on your personal Facebook wall, your friends react and respond because they know you on some personal level. When you post something on your business or blog profile, you must ask yourself why people would respond? Answering this question and adapting your marketing approach can make you a pro at Facebook marketing. In our marketing experience, we believe that those who are able to provide content which intersects the audiences most passionate likes or dislikes will inherently receive the most engagement and shares via Facebook.
  2. Hyper-target or die – As Facebook, the social media giant, continues to grow, the reach allotted to each page and profile becomes less and less. What does this mean for Facebook marketers? Years ago, you could become successful no matter who you targeted on Facebook along as you could arouse some level of interest, but in 2016, things are different. Facebook marketers need to think about targeting more than ever before. I’ll call this “hyper-targeting.” Instead of targeting people who like cars, focus on what type of car model itself. Instead of focusing on funny videos, focus on a specific category of funny videos. This way you’ll be able to better meet your audience right where they are. If you don’t have a hyper-targeted Facebook page, getting those shares might be next to impossible!
  3. Tell them what to do – People usually don’t like being told what to do, but if you can somehow tell them in a positive way, you’ll win at getting Facebook shares! Use implicit combined with explicit share prompts. First tell people why your content is so awesome and then combine this reason with a reason to share. For example: “This homeless man deserved every penny! Share this wonderful story of you agree!” If you use this technique, you are sure to be successful! This technique is SOO successful that we even made a plugin that prompts users to share after they read content on your blog. We’ve made many blog owners millionaires because of this simple technique, trust us, it works!
  4. Short and to the point – describing your content in long-winded style won’t help your cause. Social media users want what they want now, and any delaying will end in a bounce and your visitor will leave. You don’t want this. Choose tag lines when posting that grabs your audiences attention right where it matters. You only have a few seconds to get the attention of your audience, don’t mess it up!
  5. Become an authority – You can be “just another piece of content” or you can really become an authority by creating premium content that people recognize by posting daily at the same specified times. If you intersect your audience correctly and provide the best content ever, you’ll give your audience a reason to love your name. When your audience falls in love with you, you’ll build your social authority and get many more shares.

In summary, remember to speak the right language to your audience, provide content that is meaningful to your audience, become an authority in your niche and then simply prompt your visitors to share. Getting more engagement and shares on Facebook is simple if you get this formula correct in the begening.

The Cancer That Kills Your Facebook Page

Yes, I know this sounds like a crazy title, but it’s something that effects many Facebook pages!

There’s a cancer that infects and affects many Facebook pages. Have you ever seen a page that has over 600,000 likes and some posts have only 3-4 likes, and maybe 1 share? Have you ever wondered why this might happen? Well, it has everything to do with how Facebook’s algorithm works. Facebook’s algorithm is constantly rating content which is posted every day and deciding what should be shown to its users. It’s all based on how people react to the content. You can have a page filled with 600,000 people, but if your followers like different things, it’s going to be very hard to get a good reaction at first. Facebook shows your posts to a small percentage of people first, but if only a small percentage responds to your posts, you may only reach 500 people. This is why broad-interest audiences can be very difficult and in many cases may be the cancer that kills you in the end.

If the content being posted isn’t intersecting the audience in the perfect spot, the post will fail at reaching hardly anyone. This is why you’ll notice influencers like BuzzFeed have multiple pages that represent various interests. In fact they started “Tasty” just to target cooking lovers. If you’ve ever seen those cooking videos with 500,000 shares and like 70,000,000 views, you can guess the reason why. They had a targeted page, a targeted niche, and their users are responding as you can guess; amazingly! – If half of Tasty’s fans didn’t like to cook, can you imagine how poorly these pages would perform?

Pages large or small which don’t specifically meet and target the needs of ALL its users will fail. This is the cancer that plagues split-interest pages.

How can I get rid of Facebook page cancer?

If your audience is still small, start by targeting a niche that is easily repeatable. Make sure you always provide content that a specific group of people will love and enjoy. If you don’t follow this rule, people will start liking your page because they only saw ONE thing that interested them… But sadly this may not reflect the majorly of content being posted to the page. This one person can become a boat anchor and the cancer that kills your Facebook page. You can’t force anyone to unlike your page, so be careful who likes your page in the first place!

Years ago people thought it was a good idea to get as many likes as possible, but that is exactly what will kill pages today.

Focus on your niche, win at targeting and you’ll have a cancer free Facebook page!

NOTE: If Facebook gives users a way to specifically target a specific niche when they post, there may be hope in getting larger pages to engage, otherwise it’s not going to happen anytime soon!

How To Avoid Getting Your Google AdSense Account Banned or Disabled

If you’re using AdSense on your sites, getting your site disabled by Google, or your zoicntire account banned by AdSense, is probably one of your biggest fears!

At Riviton, an Internet marketing consulting agency, we hear about many horror stories about those who got their accounts banned and entire AdSense accounts disabled. Some accounts even banned with over $700,000 (USD) payable earnings in one month with no resolution. This definitely NOT something you ever want to happen!

Google is very serious about those that try to “game” the system and if you get on their bad list, you won’t last long! Google and AdSense is trying to protect those those that spend huge amounts of money in total via AdWords to market their ads on sites. When someone tries to “game” the system with dodgy ad layouts or questionable traffic it won’t be long until you’ll be banned, forever!  Always make sure you follow all program policies and read the tips below.

Trust us, you don’t want this to happen, that’s were about to give you these tips on how to stay on Google’s good side when it comes to Adsense compliance:

1. Accidental Clicks – This is a huge reason that many accounts get banned. Google’s automated system can detect when accidental clicking occurs and you don’t want this to happen! To prevent accidental clicks, make sure your AdSense ads don’t trick users Into thinking it’s part of the content.

Things you DON’T want to do:

  • Don’t place buttons close to an AdSense unit that might trick users into accidentally clicking the ad.
  • Don’t put text prompts to click the ad, OR text asking a user to click another area to make another action, then putting the ad before that element. This can trick people into clicking ads and create a negative experience.
  • Don’t place any ads larger than 320X100 above the fold when viewed on mobile. When you view the post that displays your the ads on mobile, no advertisement should be showing in the fully loaded view that is larger than 320X100. At Riviton, we’ve personally witnessed many sites getting banned by AdSense by violating this policy and placing large square ads that show up at the top of the page on mobile. Don’t do what they did! (If you’re worried about correct placements, you can use a service like Ezoic Layout Tester to ensure all placements are acceptable. We use this on our clients sites and it’s the safest solution if you want to protect yourself from getting banned)

2. Invalid or fake traffic – Paying for traffic or participating in click exchange to get clicks is also one of the fastest ways to get you banned. Google is always on the lookout for these groups on Facebook and social media. You’ll be their next target if you participate in invalid ways of obtaining traffic and clicks. Paying to boost your posts on social media via paid advertising can bring quality traffic and is OK to use, but be careful. If you notice unusually high CTR, it could be a sign your users are accidentally clicking ads – you don’t want this!

3. Copyrighted Material – If your site promotes, gives access to, or in any other way encourages copyright infringement in any way, you should stop immediately. This can get you banned immediately if Google finds out and they’re always reviewing sites to ensure content is original.

4. Copied textual content – Some sites copy complete articles, word-for-word. This is against AdSense and can also get you banned. Google Adsense only wants their ads showing on quality sites with original textual content. If your content is original, don’t put Adsense on it. Additionally if your site has other links which copy other people indexed in Google, you can also get banned. The Google spiders are good at detecting when someone copies content which has been previously published. It’s not worth the risk, be original. 100% original.

5. Video sites – Posting ads alongside Embedded videos is acceptable, but if you’re posting videos without any textual content to tell the story, you may run the risk of a warning or possible ban. Always put at least 200-300 words of possible. These words must be 100% unique and not copied.

6. Don’t exceed MAXIMUM ads on one page – At this time, Google AdSense only allows 3 main display ad units on each page. The only way to get around this and still be in compliant with Adsense TOU’s is to link your account with Ezoic. Ezoic can allow you to serve up to 5 display units and become a PREMIUM publisher. If you’re not using Ezoic for AdSense, DON’T place any more than 3 display units per page, or risk getting suspended.

7. Content that won’t make Google AdSense happy – What you post matters. If you post questionable content on your blog, don’t use AdSense. Examples of this content can be seen below:

  • Porn, Adult material
  • Violent content
  • Racial content
  • Hacking/Cracking
  • Gambling/Casino
  • Pages selling Drugs, Alcohol (Beer or hard alcohol)
  • Pages selling Weapons and ammunition
  • Distribution of course work. Eg: Student Essays
  • Pages that host any hacked content or stolen content

8. Get your AdSense account managed – if you’re worried, get protection! One of the best ways to keep yourself from getting banned by Google is start using a Google Certified Publisher. There are a few options available, but Ezoic seems to be the best service right now. By using Ezoic, they will manage your account and make sure you are in 100% compliance with Google’s policies. There may be cases where you could still get yourself banned, but in most all cases, using Ezoic with your AdSense account will give you a greater level of protection. Because they are a Certified Google Publishing Partner, they have first line communication with Google and can receive warnings about your site before you get the official letter that you’re banned. This helps a lot, because it gives you a chance to fix the issues without it becoming an account level violation. Like always you still must comply with all terms and conditions while using Ezoic with your AdSense. There also may be other options to become a Google Publishing Partner, but at this time you must use Ezoic, or another publishing partner.

9. Painfully high CTR – If your CTR seems to be abnormally high, you’ve got a problem and it must be fixed ASAP. In our experience on an average blog, CTR above 4.5% consistently is a RED FLAG. This could be normal if your site is within an extremely tight niche, but if your sending general traffic to your blog and your seeing CTR above this amount, there may be some need for concern. You will need to asses your layout and make sure your ads are compliant on all devices including smaller mobile devices and fix the problem before it becomes an account level violation. (i.e. Remove 336×280 ad spot from the top of your page for any mobile traffic above the fold)

10. Bad incoming referrals – Always watch your referrals carefully, if you start to receive visits from a porn site, Google can pick up on this and you you’ll be banned. Many people don’t know this, but we’ve personally had clients who had to do a lot of work to recover from someone spamming their IP profile by sending bad traffic just to get them in trouble. If you see this happening, you’ll want to block the incoming IP address from your server. Joining CloudFlare can also help prevent bad traffic in only some circumstances. Always watch your traffic carefully, especially if you’re receiving over 1,000,000 impressions/month and becoming a popular site.

11. Bad outbound links – If you have links from your site going to bad sites that are also against Google’s content policies you can also get in hot water fast! (i.e. Porn, illegal downloads, illegal movie hosting sites, etc…) NOTE: If you get hacked, turn off all ads until your malware or spammy links are gone. You could potentially get banned if your hacked site has bad outgoing links. They can be. detected by the Google spiders…You don’t want that!

12. Invalid ad locations – AdSense has several ads which are approved to be sticky on mobile, but in general, you should never modify code from AdSense and never place it in a sticky box on desktop.  Some people think they can get away with this, but it’s not a good idea!  It should be obvious, but also keep in mind that placing ads on a 404 page, exit pages, login pages, or empty pages with no content is prohibited by AdSense.

In summary, AdSense is very strict on their policies, however their platform is the best. We’ve personally tested many alternatives, but AdSense always serves the best ads available. If you’re unsure about your layout and scared about getting banned, you can always protect yourself by joining an AdSense partner program. We suggest joining the Ezoic Google Certified Publishing Partner program, or other program.

Getting greedy never pays (literally) – Be very careful and follow all AdSense policies and you can become highly successful while using AdSense!
